SUNDAY, MARCH 17TH TELEVISION INTERVIEW If you have nothing better to do like playing solitaire or cutting your toenails, you might want to see me being interviewed this weekend on KOFY. (Channel 20) The show will be at 10:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 17th. and is referred to as a Retro T.V. night. They show an old T.V. show, ( this time it’s an oldie of The Partridge Family). I’m interviewed at the beginning, middle and end of the show. The interview was done this morning at their studios in South San Francisco, Betty went along and we both enjoyed the experience. The movie they will be showing is “The Partridge Family.” As you probably know, my first book, CASEY’S SLIP has been scripted for a movie and tentatively retitled as “Innocent Devils.” The first “table read” is scheduled for early March.

HOW TO HELP ME AND GET AFREE COPY OF JUSTICE FOR JOSHUA.

So far I have 2 reviews of my second book (JOSHUA’S REVENGE) on Amazon. One gives my book the highest rating (5 stars) and a great review. The other gives my book a lousy review. The same bad review has been planted about my first book, JOSHUA’S REVENGE. AMAZON IS TAKING DOWN all of those bad reviews as they’ve been identified as coming from a demented person.

My first book has all positive reviews except one criticizing my overabundance of commas. In addition it has already been chosen to be scripted for a motion picture by a well respected and experienced editor.

Many people rely completely on the review and star system on Amazon or Barnes & Noble to choose their books. This person’s review could have been very damaging to the book’s future.

I do know the identity of the reviewer and I know her motives. They are personal and stem from a relationship gone bad within my extended family. If you’ve read JOSHUA’S REVENGE and/or CASEY’S SLIP and think they deserve better treatment, PLEASE, PLEASE write a review for Amazon or B&N and give me 4 or 5 stars.

Simply go to AMAZON BOOKS, type in Richard L. Wren and you’ll be on my page. Click on the pic of JOSHUA’S REVENGE or CASEY’S SLIP. Near the top of the resulting page is a box saying, WRITE YOUR OWN REVIEW. Click on it, write your review and give me some stars.

You can do the same with BARNES & NOBLE. (B&N site is being brought up to date as we speak) P.S. The first draft of the movie script for CASEY’S SLIP is now finished with a movie title of “INNOCENT DEVILS” EVERYSIGNED REVIEW WILL RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF MY NEXT BOOK (JUSTICE FOR JOSHUA) AS SOON AS IT’S IN PRINT, ESTIMATED TO BE IN MARCH OR APRIL OF 2013.

-ANNOUNCEMENT-

On March 2nd we (Loyd Auerbach and Richard L. Wren) will be hosting the “FIRST ANNUAL EAST BAY AREA LOCAL AUTHORS BOOK FAIRE” at The Oak Room of Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Boulevard, Walnut Creek, California. It will be BY LOCAL AUTHORS FOR LOCAL AUTHORS” and will be free to the (book-buying) public. Cost per author will be a share of hall rental (approx. $25-$35 per author, on the lower side as we get more people signed up), plus we’re asking an additional $10.00 above that for publicity and snacks. Each author will have a large table space to display and sell their books, and will also have time on the room’s platform stage for a brief reading, remarks, and/or Q & A session. We expect a maximum of 15 authors and already have about 7 signed up. We expect the event will last from late morning to late afternoon. Exact timing TBD.

We have someone who will publicize the event and expect newspaper, radio and TV coverage along with promotion in Rossmoor. We are also seeking promotion by independent book stores, and already have promotional support by book stores such as A GREAT GOOD PLACE FOR BOOKS in Montclair. The venue itself ( a separate hall at Grace Presbyterian Church complex) will promote to their large community, as will HCH Institute in Lafayette, where Loyd teaches.

As I said before, I’ve literally ordered and read dozens upon dozens of self help books online and was almost 100% disappointed in them. They are full of generalities and very few specifics. In order to write, publish and get a book on Amazon or Barnes & Noble there are a number of very specific things you must know about and do. EXAMPLE: An ISBN number. Very few books even tell you what it is, let alone why you need it. My book tells you what it is, why you need it, where to get it (including website and names), how much it costs and when you need it. Every DETAIL to save you time, money and mistakes. It even tells you how you can get one for FREE, by using the right source.

Here’s a tip that worked for me. If you have your story in mind but can’t seem to get started. If that first paragraph and chapter just elude your best efforts and you just aren’t making any headway, try this. Find a 10 year old (or thereabouts) and ask him if you can tell him a story. Maybe 2 or 3 youngsters would even be better. When your youthful audience is sitting in front of you, mouth hanging open, waiting for your story, i’ll give you odds that your story will come tumbling out. It’s much easier to tell a story to a child than to an adult or as a first paragraph. When you’ve done it, rush off and write it down before you forget it.

However, as far as i know, I’m the only one of the eight or so members of our study group that has re-invented himself as I have. Some of them have continued in the insurance industry very successfully, some have retired very happily but none have changed their avocation or occupation as drastically as I or others have. So maybe that experience wasn’t as important as I thought? Or maybe it was just me??

Maybe the bug was in me all the time. In college I talked my way into writing a weekly column for the long lost Berkeley Gazette. A column about local successful businessmen. I also wrote a short story for children entitled “Sylvester The Stuttering Seagull”. It never sold.
