Cultivating Serendipity: How My Book Became a Screenplay

How CASEY’S SLIP became INNOCENT DEVILS.
I enjoy talking to strangers. A number of months ago my wife and I were having lunch in a coffee shop when I noticed a young woman working on her computer at a nearby table. Being a novelist myself I assumed she was working on a book and struck up a conversation. 

As it turned out she was not a novelist. But she had been a script writer and editor for a major movie studio and was now striking out on her own. 

We exchanged information, ideas, backgrounds and cards. All in all, a very pleasant interlude. That was on a Thursday. 

Monday morning bright and early my phone rang. It took a moment or two for me to identify the caller as the young lady I’d met the previous Thursday. She was excited. 

“Right after I left you at the coffee shop I went to a local book store and bought your book. I read it over the weekend and we have to make it into a movie!” she announced. 

To make a long story short, we met, discussed the whole project, formed a partnership and she embarked on the Script project.

The script is done. The name is changed to INNOCENT DEVILS. Contacts have been made. We have interest and Hollywood representation and my arms, legs and eyes are crossed with hope and expectation. 

And that’s how CASEY’S SLIP became INNOCENT DEVILS.
